Brian joined the Rotary Club of Waratah in 1974 with the classification of Building Construction. He served as Club President in 1981-1982, 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 with terms as Club Secretary and Director of each of the avenues of service. He was Assistant Governor in District 9670 from 2001 to 2003. Brian was made a Paul Harris Fellow in 1992 by the Rotary Club of Waratah. In 2006 Brian received a Paul Harris Fellowship Sapphire from his Rotary Club for his contribution to Rotary, the Newcastle, Northern NSW and National Science and Engineering Challenge program and to the community.

Brian was born and educated in Newcastle where his tertiary studies were ongoing at Newcastle Technical College completing his Carpentry and Joinery Trade Certificate (Honours) in 1966 and Building Foreman and Clerk of Works Course in 1968 after receiving a Commonwealth Technical Scholarship. He received an Excellence in Building Outstanding Community Achievement Award for the fire-damaged rebuilding project of Newcastle Young People’s Theatre in 1999 by the Newcastle Master Builders Association.

Brian’s interest in science and engineering continued throughout his career to his current position as Newcastle Regional Chair of the Science and Engineering Challenge Coordinating Committee. In April 2007 the Chancellor of The University of Newcastle presented Brian with the University’s Exceptional Service Medal.

Brian and Madeleine married in 1970 and have two married daughters. Both are graduates of The University of Newcastle. Madeleine has a background in banking and administration with a keen interest in the arts. She was employed by the Department of Education and Communities in event management and recently retired as Operations Manager of Star Struck. Brian and Madeleine are life members of Newcastle Young People’s Theatre.

Brian looks forward to his new challenge as District Governor for District 9670 for 2013-2014 representing Rotary International throughout District 9670 and the community.
