David was born and raised in Newcastle.  At the completion of his Diploma in Education in 1979, he worked for Colonial Sugar Refinery as a teaching tutor on a cattle station in the Northern Territory and then on a sheep station in Queensland.
David first joined the Rotary Club of Rylstone–Kandos in 2003 and was elected President for 2006-2007.  He has been Chair of both the short term and long term youth exchange programs, and was Assistant Governor, Zone 3, 2015-2018,
David is determined to continue the outstanding work of Past District Governors and the present G-Train, being acutely aware of what has been done in the past by the many great Clubs and their honoured members, whilst keen to support the aspirations of those now benefiting from membership of Rotary.
David and Amanda met each other through teaching.  David was appointed to Rouchel Public School in the Upper Hunter as Teacher in Charge in 1982 and Amanda was Teacher in Charge of John Foley Special School in Muswellbrook.  At this time, Amanda joined the local Quota Club as women were not permitted to be Rotary members.
They married in Muswellbrook in 1985 and later had five children; Zachary, Yedda, Eamonn, Imogene and Finley, all living in Newcastle, and are now very proud grandparents. Some of their children participated in Rotary and University exchange and youth programs.
In 1992-93, David retrained as a Special Education teacher in Newcastle and Amanda retrained as a School Counsellor at the University of Newcastle.  They were each appointed to schools in the Central Tablelands of NSW, and both held executive positions with the NSW Department of Education.
David and Amanda each received a Paul Harris Fellow from the Rotary Club of Rylstone-Kandos in 2011, and both were recognised by the District with a Paul Harris Sapphire in 2016.

David and Amanda are both retired and remain extremely active in the Rotary Club of Rylstone-Kandos assisting with the coordination of all major community projects and fundraisers along with managing the Australiana Gift Shop on behalf of their Rotary Club.
