Rotary Club of Williamtown member Steve Carroll has started an incredible journey - to ride around Australia and raise funds for Rotarians Against Malaria (RAMS), a Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) project.

Steve embarked on this adventure on Sunday 1 March 2015 from Bull n Bush Hotel at Medowie around lunchtime.

Steve hopes to raise funds to purchase mosquito nets for RAMS (Rotarians Against Malaria) and have these distributed to descendants of the Fuzzy Wuzzy angel,s who helped our troops on the Kokoda Train during World War II.

The drive behind Steve's fundraiser comes after the loss of his 19-year-old daughter Michelle to malaria while holidaying in Borneo in 1989. In honour of Michelle's memory and to raise money to fight the disease, the third most lethal in the world.

The Rotary club of Williamtown supplied a BBQ, while RAWCS Chairperson Brian Coffey had a display of early Falcon GT’s and motorbikes for the public. The RAWCS Committee also ran a Chocolate wheel to assist in the last minute fundraising.

Steve has received good support from Rotary Clubs and RSL’s throughout the country.

The ride will see him return to Maitland Park on Thursday 23 April, before heading to Newcastle for a civic reception on Friday 24 April 2015.

If you see him along the road in your travels, donate to the cause and say hello.
