Each year, the partner of the District Governor selects an organisation or project which they work on, gaining awareness and trying to raise funds for the cause, in that year. This year, Yvonne Palmer would like to raise funds and awareness for the District 9670 MHERV van.
MHERV, or Men's Health Educational Rural Van, is very close to Yvonne's heart as she was born and bred in the country, and it is purposely built mobile van for the communities throughout the western area of our District.
As we all know, men are all ashamed about spending time and going to the doctors for a check-up, especially when there is farming work to be done. The van allows men to speak to a nurse about any medical or health issue or just have their blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol levels checked.
As suicide rates are prevalent in the country because of natural disasters that occur, such as floods and/or long-lasting droughts, it often causes psychological issues to many farmers. This is why it is important that men have an avenue to discuss their concerns and the MHERV van does this.
Please ensure that your club gets behind this very worthy cause and donate. It will go along way to help with the health men in the western area of the District.
